Bill Gates
Er beschreibt den langen, schweren Weg des Computers zum Massenprodukt: "Well, the computer before the PC came along was a very difficult device. It was a device of large organisations. This idea that it could empower individuals was a dream that several companies had and actually made that dream come true." "ASSISTANT: Let's plug it in. Ive got another USB hub. So in addition to the keyboard Ive got another one and it can just daisychain up to 127 USB devices. Thats an everyday task. It's gonna say 'hey I see you've put in a new device and it's going to load the appropriate drivers. you'll notice that this scanner build, whoa! moving rightalong! GATES: That must be why we're not shipping Windows 98 yet. ASSISTANT: Absolutely, absolutely. Weve still got a little work to do here!" Die andere Seite von Bill Gates, sein soziales Engagement: "The only thing standing in the way of saving millions of additional kids lives in developing countries is insuring an adequate supply of new vaccines. So our program has a simple goal. To make vaccines you and I take for granted available to children regardless of where they live." Auch der Verbreitung von HIV hat er den Kampf angesagt: "We want to call on everyone here and around the world to help speed up what we hope will be the next big breakthrough in the fight against AIDS - the discovery of a microbicide, or an oral prevention drug that can block the transmission of HIV." Er hofft, den Kampf gegen die Krankheit zu beschleunigen und zu revolutionieren: "This could mark a turning point in the epidemic, and we have to make it an urgent priority. If we can discover these new preventive tools and deliver them quickly to the highest risked populations, we could revolutionise the fight against AIDS." 2005 wurde er von der englischen Königin Elizabeth II. zum Ritter geschlagen.
